Abstract
This lecture aims to define the anthropological content of magic and religion within the belief structure of individuals. While magic encompasses semantic meanings that have found justification in societies and mindsets capable of containing it, religion has not been separate from this trend. This research also seeks to track the symbolic and semantic features that elevate magic to the level of certain knowledge—one that managed to be a proactive alternative to science and was even, as Max Weber put it, a "profound art."
Observing the relationship between religion and magic is an arbitrary task unless it is based on an elective vision of the effects of both practices on individuals' reality, their perceptions of existence, and their worldview. Therefore, this presentation will attempt to define the nature of the links between magical thinking and the religious extension of ritual practices, based on anthropological and ethnological foundations.
