Concept note
The academic and training programs within our emerging university faculties and institutes—specifically regarding the preparation of Magister, Master, and (specialized) Doctorate degrees in history—have generally highlighted a weakness in training. This is due to various reasons, primarily linked to the inability to comprehend the "essence" of the French colonial archives concerning the history of Algeria. This makes it difficult to grasp the specializations of this vast and thematically diverse archive, thereby complicating the scientific approach to research topics and the adherence to the rigorous conditions and critical perspective necessary to achieve the designated goals of historical research.

Based on these indicators, the research team focusing on "The Oran Sector and its Southern Territory: A Study of Tribal Space, Military Administration, and Settlement during the Colonial Era (1830-1873)" has decided to organize a study day on the topic: "Current University Writings in Modern and Contemporary History." The aim is to conduct a preliminary survey of current scientific production in historical studies and evaluate the efforts exerted across various fields—social, economic, political, or cultural. This initiative seeks to prospectively cover neglected areas of research—which remain numerous—especially since the country now possesses qualified scientific personnel with the expertise and experience to be utilized effectively and efficiently in this field.
