The Elderly in Algeria: What Destiny?
Presentation of Research Project Results and Public Debate

The Department of Anthropology of Education and Training Systems invites you to the presentation of the final results of a research project conducted by a team of researchers under the supervision of Mostefa Mimouni (University of Mostaganem). The project focused on the theme of "The Elderly Between the Two Shores of the Mediterranean."

The project's focus on this social actor is not merely due to the demographic data represented by this age group in Algeria and among immigrants "who lived a life in exile (the image of the Chibani)". Rather, it falls within an anthropological approach that questions social institutions regarding the lived experiences of this group, which rarely receives scientific and media attention compared to other segments, particularly "the youth." According to the methodological framework proposed by the research team, presenting these results is of paramount importance. It approaches this demographic based on a series of field studies, focusing on analyzing the elderly in relation to topics such as social bonds and family, intergenerational relations, public policies, care institutions (social, healthcare, etc.), retirement, and the return from migration.

We believe that presenting and discussing these findings with researchers and those directly involved with this demographic will enrich the results obtained. Furthermore, it could open up new avenues for research that complement the efforts of Insaniyat journal, whose double issue (72-73) is dedicated to this group.
