Concept note
It was during the proceedings of the General Conference, held on the occasion of its 30th session in November 1999, that UNESCO proclaimed World Poetry Day, celebrated on March 21st of each year. This initiative values the social and communicative role of poetry, as well as its contribution to raising awareness about major global issues. The event aims to introduce local poetic sensibilities and practices, reflecting the growing interest shown by various cultural actors.

In this context, the Centre for Research in Social and Cultural Anthropology (CRASC), in collaboration with the Centre for Maghrib Studies in Algeria (CEMA) and the Faculty of Foreign Languages at the University of Oran 2, is participating in the festive program outlined by the initiative "Oran Literary Days - Second Edition". This collaboration is highlighted by the organization of a scientific seminar entitled "Anthropology of Poetic Practices in Algeria".

The seminar offers three complementary sessions:

The First Session: Pays tribute to the late researcher and anthropologist Hadj Miliani (1951-2021), in recognition of his significant efforts dedicated to local poetic practices in Algeria, particularly those related to the cultural heritage of Raï music. His academic contributions greatly helped pave the way for the inscription of Algerian Raï on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on December 1st, 2022.

The Second Session: Discusses poetic practices in Algeria and their accompanying rituals, exploring their anthropological dimensions and diverse linguistic expressions: Classical Arabic poetry (Fusha), Amazigh poetry, Melhoun, poetry of the Algerian South, and poetry in foreign languages.

The Third Session: Maintained and animated by specialized researchers and poets from various regions of Algeria, this session celebrates poetry through a variety of poetic readings. These will vary between the different modes (Tab's) of Andalusia's Zajal, as well as diverse themes from classical, Amazigh, and foreign-language poetry.

He then pursued further studies in France, obtaining a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DEA) from the University of Strasbourg. Additionally, he holds a Master's degree from the University of Oran, a PhD from the University of Mostaganem, and has achieved both the University Habilitation and the rank of full Professor.

Renowned for his creative output, Rabhi has published numerous poems in national and Arab newspapers and journals. His poetic repertoire includes six collections, notably:

Ascension au sommet du Djebel Ouennchir (Ascent to the Summit of Mount Ouarsenis, Dar el-Gharb, Oran, 2004)

In the field of critical studies, he published a two-volume work entitled Le texte et la codification (The Text and Codification), which explores the formal structure of contemporary Algerian poetry. The two volumes—L’idéologie du texte poétique (The Ideology of the Poetic Text) and La référentialité du texte poétique (The Referentiality of the Poetic Text)—were both published by Dar el-Gharb in 2003.

Rabhi has contributed significantly to peer-reviewed national and international journals, and his work has been the subject of several academic studies, Master's theses, and doctoral dissertations. He has also participated in numerous collaborative projects and literary symposiums. Among these joint publications is the book Intellectuels ayant écrit la révolution (Intellectuals Who Wrote the Revolution), in which he examines the relationship between geographical liberation and historical colonization.

Furthermore, Abdelkader Rabhi participated in the Algiers International Book Fair (SILA) to present his latest book, Transformations dans la poésie algérienne contemporaine : texte, forme, contexte (Transformations in Contemporary Algerian Poetry: Text, Form, Context), reflecting his continuous commitment and contribution to the Algerian literary landscape.
