Abstract
This conference presents an initial overview of an ongoing research project focusing on Arab teachers working in Algeria as part of Arabization policies. While technical and cultural cooperation during decolonization is well-documented, few studies have examined inter-Arab cooperation and cultural exchanges between the Maghreb and the Mashreq, which were nevertheless constitutive of a period conducive to Arab solidarity.
Drawing on published works, newspapers, ministerial journals, and official texts, as well as testimonies from former teachers, a social history of Arabic language teaching emerges from the 1960s to the 1990s. The material conditions of these teachers' settlement, their motivations, their teaching methods, and their activist commitments contribute to a collective portrait of this era.
